40.59 Pontiac Catalina
Out of decades long storage and back up and running grandads 1959 Pontiac Catalina, hardtop coupe (no pillar when windows are down), 389 V8, 4-speed AT, manual steering and brakes. Starts, runs, shifts and stops but not roadworthy yet. Needs carb rebuild, brake work, tires, etc. Granpa drove this up to the mid 70s This is the same body shell as the 1959 Chevy Impala hardtop, but a much better car: big-block 389 vs small block 283, 4 speed automatic vs 2-speed auto. With a 59 Pontiac you have the same size, same weight, same great late-50's style, but with a lot more usable car. First year of the iconic Pontiac split grill, rocket fins, and one of the best dash layouts ever. These are great looking cars. The motor sounds great and has tons of power/torque, but the carb is gummed up inside and it's currently running rich. Still, no blue smoke out the tailpipe, so it looks like the motor is solid and won't need rebuilding, just tuning. Sounds good, and I have videos of a startup and short drive. Lights, horn, gauges, and wipers work. Tires are old and not safe. Transmission shifts through the gears forward and reverse without any noises. I put a new sending unit in the gas tank only to find that the line is plugged, so it's currently running off an auxiliary tank under the hood. Charging system works well. Fuel pump leaks. Paint is old and he touched it up with a rattle can on the white areas, but not the red. No signs of any accidents. Complete car, isolated spots of rust, dings and dents, but complete and running. Right year, right colors, right body, right drivetrain. This would make a great restoration project, or do a few more things and drive as-is. Comes with an extra front fender and a few trim pieces. $7500
